Product Description
The Best School Year Ever
That's the kind of junior year Betsy Ray has planned for herself. And when her childhood friend Tib Muller moves back to Deep Valley, Betsy's sure her perfect year is off to a grand start. With charming, funny Tib around, Crowd doings are more fun than ever -- especially after Betsy starts Okto Delta, the first -- ever sorority at Deep Valley High.

But soon Betsy's luck takes a bad turn. The Crowd is getting into trouble at school, and Betsy isn't given a chance to compete in the annual Essay Contest. Could Betsy's best school year turn out to be her worst?

My Review:

This book is my least favorite so far in the Betsy-Tacy series. I just could not get into it. Betsy has grown in to such a silly girl. Her sister goes off to school and is pledging a sorority and she decides to start her own. This is when all her troubles start. She starts acting out in school and makes silly remarks. Some of the dialogue could not possibly be one of a 16 yr old girl. I guess times have changed since the writing of this book. Betsy was Junior just bored me a little. It took me the whole week to read it. I am moving on to Betsy and the Great World since I do not have Betsy and Joe in my possession. I also could not possibly take any more of her high school years.

I rate this a 2/5.

Review of Are You There Vodka, It's me Chelsea

Product Details
Hardcover: 264 pages
Publisher: Simon Spotlight Entertainment; 1ST edition (April 22, 2008)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1416954120
ISBN-13: 978-1416954125

Synopsis from BarnesandNoble.com
THE EAGERLY AWAITED COLLECTION OF PERSONAL ESSAYS FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF MY HORIZONTAL LIFEWhen Chelsea Handler needs to get a few things off her chest, she appeals to a higher power -- vodka. You would too if you found out that your boyfriend was having an affair with a Peekapoo or if you had to pretend to be honeymooning with your father in order to upgrade to first class. Welcome to Chelsea's world -- a place where absurdity reigns supreme and a quick wit is the best line of defense. In this hilarious, deliciously skewed collection, Chelsea mines her past for stories about her family, relationships, and career that are at once singular and ridiculous. Whether she's convincing her third-grade class that she has been tapped to play Goldie Hawn's daughter in the sequel to Private Benjamin, deciding to be more egalitarian by dating a redhead, or looking out for a foulmouthed, rum-swilling little person who looks just like her...only smaller, Chelsea has a knack for getting herself into the most outrageous situations. Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea showcases the candor and irresistible turns of phrase that have made her one of the freshest voices in comedy today.

My Review:

I listen to the audio version of this book. The author herself read the book. It made you feel like you were at one of her shows. She did not let and race, nationality or animal for that matter out of her jokes.

Ms. Handler's style is slightly sarcastic but she had me in stitches at times. You felt like you got to know her families quirks, her likes and dislikes and something about her ex-boyfriends.She would be a cool person to hang out with.

This book was a not as good as her first The Horizontal Life but it was typical Chelsea. I read on her website she has a third book coming out soon and I hope to get that.

I would recommend this book for fans of Chelsea because you would not be disappointed. I was not disappointed and I have become a bigger fan of hers through this book.

Review of Fat Camp

Summary from the back cover:
The sent me to lose some weight... Camp! Songs by the fire, first kisses, summer fun... but not at Camp Calliope, prison came for the overweight. That's where my parents have shipped me off to eat controlled portions, endure rigorous exercise, and sleep in a room full of girls who'd rather exchange recipes than ghost stories and gossip. There is one cool girl from Texas, Faith Masters, who is normal enough to help me stay sane and temporarily replace my best friend Evie. How I miss Evie. And ice cream. And french fries...
but I feel like I'm losing my mind.
And then there's Jesse- the only thing even close to droolworthy on this camp's menu. I can totally relate to him, since his basketball coach sounds a lot like my perfectly thin, successful mom. It looks like for the next eight weeks the issues( and not the food) on my plate will be supersized...

My Review:
This book was a cute book about summer camp for kids who have to lose a few pounds. The main character Cameron is funny at times the way she describes people. The camp is eight weeks and she meets a lot of interesting people including a girl who has Bulimia. She also discovers a lot about herself and even gets a boyfriend. By the time the summer ends she finds out who her real friends are. I think this book is good for anyone who has a child who is a little on the heavy side and thinking about sending them to camp. It gives them a little insight to what goes on at the camps. Cam is a character they can relate to.

I give this book a 4/5
